Lawn Care at Industrial Scale
TruGreen serves 2.5 million customers across all 48 contiguous states with 13,000+ employees and 9,000 service vehicles. They’ve been at it since 1973, and their approach leans heavily on science — a team of PhD agronomists develops region-specific treatment protocols based on local soil, climate, grass types, and pest pressures. They maintain research plots around the country to test products before rolling them out.
Plans and Pricing
Five annual tiers. The most popular, TruComplete, includes 5–6 fertilization applications, pre- and post-emergent weed control, aeration, overseeding, and free re-treatments between visits. There’s also a TruNatural plan using 100% organic-based fertilizers. Every plan starts with a Healthy Lawn Analysis that evaluates soil type, grass species, sun exposure, and existing problems.
Pricing is based on lawn size, plan, and region. A 5,000 square foot lawn on TruComplete runs roughly $60–$80 per treatment visit. More expensive than DIY, but the professional-grade products (many not available to consumers) and calibrated application make a visible difference for homeowners who’ve tried and failed with store-bought fertilizer.
Beyond the Lawn
Tree and shrub care (fertilization, insect control, disease management), mosquito defense, grub prevention, soil amendment, and pH balancing. Their fall aeration and overseeding service is particularly popular for recovering from summer heat stress.
Worth It or Not?
TruGreen delivers results. The science-based approach genuinely outperforms generic treatment schedules, and their Healthy Lawn Guarantee (free re-treatment if you’re not satisfied between visits) backs it up. The downsides: you’re locked into an annual program, cancellation can be a hassle according to some customer reports, and the chemical treatments aren’t for everyone — if you prefer a fully organic approach, TruNatural exists but is limited in scope. For homeowners who want a green, weed-free lawn without doing the work themselves, TruGreen is the market leader for a reason.
